Yan Luoxi felt inexplicably fearful of the young girl. When Ran Xu saw that Yan Luoxi was dazed, he smiled and pulled her hand to lead her into the house, explaining along the way that this family used to be his old neighbors who had always been kind to him.
The couple were extremely hospitable, their simple and honest demeanor warming Yan Luoxi's heart. It was already late at night, but they disregarded Ran Xu and Yan Luoxi's objections, arranging a sumptuous feast for them.
Ran Xu made no pretensions of being a star in front of the couple; he called them Chang Uncle and Chang Aunt, and referred to the girl as Yu Hong. He spoke freely with them, his smile warm and inviting.
During dinner, Yu Hong hardly said anything to Yan Luoxi. When their eyes met occasionally, she would quickly look away. She chatted happily in her local dialect with Ran Xu; Yan Luoxi couldn't understand a word but could tell from the expressions on their faces that they were discussing pleasant topics.
Ran Xu possibly worried about Yan Luoxi feeling neglected and made sure to include her when speaking to others, serving her food and picking out bones for her while removing cilantro she didn't like from the cold dishes.
Chang Uncle and Chang Aunt were both kindly smiling at how well Ran Xu treated Yan Luoxi. Yu Hong wore a pure and adorable smile but had an intense stare fixed on Yan Luoxi.
Ran Xu paid no attention to Yu Hong's attitude, frequently glancing over at Yan Luoxi as he ate. His eyes were black as pitch, his eyebrows finely arched and dark; staring into them made Yan Luoxi's heart race.
Mr. Chang's house doesn't have many rooms, so in the evening when they rest, they naturally arrange for this deeply affectionate unmarried couple to stay in one room.
Yan Luoxi feels quite awkward about it, but fortunately, Mrs. Chang is also an honest person and didn’t joke around with them; she left after leading them to their room's door.
There is only a large bed inside the room. The moment they enter, Yan Luoxi feels a bit dumbfounded. Ran Xu pats her shoulder gently and says softly, "Don't be nervous. You sleep in the bed, I'll sleep on the floor."
"You're going to sleep on the floor!" Yan Luoxi feels uneasy; although the climate is warm here, it still gets chilly at night in this small town, and sleeping on the ground would definitely be very cold.
"Then would you allow me to sleep in your bed" Ran Xu says half-jokingly.
"Ah!" Yan Luoxi can't help but look startled; even though she agreed to register her marriage with Ran Xu, the thought of sleeping in the same bed as him is still unacceptable for her.
Seeing her nervous expression, Ran Xu feels a bit disappointed and then smiles warmly, "I was just kidding. I often go out to shoot exterior scenes; I've experienced all sorts of harsh conditions, so sleeping on the floor has become commonplace for us."
Despite feeling apologetic, Yan Luoxi still agrees with Ran Xu's decision to sleep on the floor. She gives him most of the blankets and quilts from the bed, washes her face and hands herself, then pulls out a thin blanket and lies down in bed.
This place is different from big cities; there are no streetlights outside the window, and both inside and outside the room are pitch black. Yan Luoxi is not used to such darkness and also cannot adapt to sharing a room with Ran Xu, unable to fall asleep for quite some time.
She was afraid of disturbing Ran Xu's sleep and dared not toss and turn, so she could only lie still on the bed, staring wide-eyed at the ceiling. Soon, she heard that Ran Xu lying on the floor had fallen into a deep, even breathing, clearly asleep.
This place is familiar to him, and after such折騰 (disturbance) through the night, he must be tired and reassured, so he fell asleep quickly.
Yan Luoxi doesn't know why she can't fall asleep. The slightly warm air inside the room almost makes her feel restless. Perhaps because of eating something in the middle of the night, she gradually started to feel discomfort in her stomach. Initially, she didn't pay much attention and thought it would pass soon. But later on, when she couldn't endure the needle-like pain in her stomach, she turned on the bedside lamp to look for some medicine in her luggage.
Although Yan Luoxi moved very lightly, as soon as the lamp lit up, Ran Xu woke up. He saw that Yan Luoxi was clutching her chest with a pale face and immediately asked worriedly: "Luoxi, what's wrong"
"I... I have stomach pain!" Yan Luoxi was in so much pain that cold sweat broke out on her forehead, making her voice tremble.
Ran Xu jumped up from the floor and said repeatedly: "Luoxi, lie down on the bed. I'll find you some medicine and get water."
Yan Luoxi's stomach medicine is in her luggage box. Ran Xu quickly found the medicine for her and then noticed that all the water inside the room was cold boiled water. He said to her: "Luoxi, hold on a little longer; I'll go boil some water for you."
"Don't... Don't bother Uncle Zhang, just take the medicine with this cold water," Yan Luoxi almost snatched the pills from Ran Xu's hand and swallowed them with a glass of cold boiled water.
The medicine taken with cold water wouldn’t work immediately. Because she drank cold water, Yan Luoxi felt chilly and her whole body started to shiver.
Ran Xu saw her like this, his heart ached and he was worried. After a moment’s hesitation, he lifted his leg onto the bed and held Yan Luoxi in his arms.
The warm and broad embrace made Yan Luoxi feel warmth all over, and the pain in her stomach seemed to lessen as if some of it had been turned off. The Yan Luoxi who used to be averse to Ran Xu’s hugs became especially docile under the torment of illness.
Ran Xu held Yan Luoxi like he would hold a little child, patting her back gently and asking softly: "Luoxi, do you feel better If there's anything that doesn't feel right, don’t endure it. You must tell me!"
In this cold night, the weakened Yan Luoxi listened to Ran Xu’s gentle voice as if she were dreaming. She felt like a traveler on an muddy path at night who suddenly saw a guiding light. Being wrapped in such a warm and broad body made her feel too tired even to move a finger.
The small town was silent at night, with lights flickering in the cramped room. A man hugged her tightly, not out of desire for gain but simply wanting to give warmth and care; his every word and action seemed especially tender and unique.
Yan Luoxi raised her watery eyes to look at Ran Xu, thinking sincerely for the first time that marrying this man would be a good choice. Love doesn't have to be grand and passionate; such consideration is also a form of love. Earth-shaking moments are fleeting, but enduring affection moves the heart more deeply and brings peace.elf and stood up to greet him, half-jokingly asking, "Where did you go Why were you out for so long"Luo An pulled her into his arms; she had a sweet scent that intoxicated him, unique to her."Baby, wh...
